About EdgeSeeker

EdgeSeeker is built at OptionsMastery GmbH with one clear goal: to give retail traders the tools to compete with the large institutional players. Our own IV solvers, Monte-Carlo simulations, GEX analysis, risk models, dynamic hedging solutions and real-time market-data pipelines — tools usually reserved for institutional desks, built from the ground up.

The founders behind EdgeSeeker

Prof. Dr. Kai Oberländer

Prof. Dr. Kai Oberländer

Quantitative Trader · Tech Entrepreneur · Creator of EdgeSeeker

Kai combines what is rarely found in a single person in the trading world: academic depth in quantitative methods, the entrepreneurial drive to execute, the ability to build the very software that delivers a real trading edge — and the talent to explain complex topics clearly.

The foundation is hard mathematics and natural science: a doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) with summa cum laude, followed — among other roles — by a professorship in Quantitative Methods and Financial Mathematics at Hochschule Fresenius (2017–2024). Stochastic models, numerical methods and data-driven analysis are his everyday tools.

Kai has actively traded options since 2019. Most recently he added institutional background knowledge through training in the McMillan environment — with a US market maker who played a leading role in building digital options trading on the CBOE. This perspective from the other side of the order book complements his quantitative approach with practical insight into how professional market participants price volatility and manage risk.

Kai is a serial entrepreneur: as CEO and co-founder he scaled MOTESQUE Inc. (Brooklyn / Cologne) from an idea to 100 employees and multi-million financing. Through his LUKATO Holding he advises a select group of companies — including publicly listed corporations in Switzerland.

His latest venture, OptionsMastery GmbH, is especially close to his heart. Here he develops EdgeSeeker together with his team and business partner Reiner Hofmann — a quantitative analysis platform with the clear goal of giving retail traders the tools to compete with the large institutional players.

What makes Kai unique

  • Mathematical depth — stochastics, numerical methods, options pricing understood from the ground up
  • Institutional market-maker knowledge — learned from the pioneers of digital options trading on the CBOE, in the McMillan environment
  • Entrepreneurial execution — from concept to scalable product, proven across all market phases
  • A builder himself — he writes the code, builds the models, designs the architecture. Not a PowerPoint trader
Reiner Hofmann

Reiner Hofmann

Quantitative Trader · Business Leader · Creator of EdgeSeeker

Reiner brings something that can't be studied: the ability to stay calm in complex, messy situations — and act anyway. Where others hesitate, he turns analysis into decisions. In trading as in business.

The foundation is engineering thinking and lived entrepreneurship: a degree in mechanical engineering (Dipl.-Ing.), a first company founded and exited in the early '90s — followed by decades in the tech and software business. Turnarounds, due-diligence processes, acquisitions, exits: Reiner has steered companies through difficult phases where experience matters more than any model. That mindset — structured, clear, consistent — he carries straight into trading.

Reiner has actively traded options since 2018. What sets him apart from many retail traders: he didn't learn the craft from books alone, but systematically from the source — with a US market maker from the McMillan environment who played a leading role in building digital options trading on the CBOE. This training fundamentally changes the view: away from reactive chart-reading, toward a structural understanding of how volatility is priced, how market makers manage risk, and where real edges hide in the options market.

Reiner thinks in probabilities, not forecasts. He sees option structures not as speculative bets but as precise tools for managing risk — and trades accordingly. The composure that distinguished him as an entrepreneur in times of crisis is the same that keeps him steady as a trader in volatile markets.

His latest venture, OptionsMastery GmbH, is especially close to his heart. Here he develops EdgeSeeker together with his team and business partner Kai Oberländer — a quantitative analysis platform with the clear goal of giving retail traders the tools to compete with the large institutional players.
